In a landmark development, Bihar will host the prestigious Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) and the Khelo India Para Games (KIPG) in April 2025, showcasing the state’s growing capabilities in hosting major sporting events. This follows the successful organization of the Women’s Asian Champions Trophy in Rajgir, further cementing Bihar’s reputation in the sports arena. The announcement was made by Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, who emphasized the importance of sports in achieving the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047.
Bihar will be the new venue for the Khelo India Youth Games 2025, a flagship event under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. This will mark the first time Bihar will host this prestigious multi-sport event, and it will feature young athletes from across the country competing in various sports disciplines.
For the first time, the Khelo India Para Games will also be held in Bihar, following the success of the inaugural edition in Delhi last year. The Para Games will be scheduled 10-15 days after the Youth Games, ensuring seamless execution. The event highlights India’s growing focus on inclusivity in sports.
Bihar has shown its commitment to developing sports infrastructure, with 38 Khelo India Centres and one State Centre of Excellence to nurture young talent. In addition, the state hosts three Sports Authority of India (SAI) Training Centres, further bolstering its sporting ecosystem.
Bihar’s recent hosting of the Women’s Asian Champions Trophy reflects its readiness to host major international events. This success sets the stage for the Khelo India Youth Games and Para Games, which will offer significant exposure to local athletes and contribute to India’s overall sports development.
