Banking services in India are taking a big step forward with the use of new technology. In a recent development, Bank of Baroda has introduced a AI-based platform called “bob SAMVAD” to make communication between customers and bank staff easier and smoother.
bob SAMVAD is a smart, AI-powered platform that helps customers and bank employees talk to each other in different languages. It removes the problem of language barriers, which many people face while visiting bank branches.
With this system, customers can speak or type in their own language, and it will instantly translate the message into the staff’s language. The reply is also translated back, making communication simple and clear.
The platform was officially launched on March 28, 2026, in Mumbai by Shri M. Nagaraju, Secretary of the Department of Financial Services under the Ministry of Finance.
He appreciated Bank of Baroda for using modern technology to improve customer experience and make banking services more inclusive and accessible for everyone.
At the bank counter, bob SAMVAD allows real-time conversation between customers and staff, even if they speak different languages. The system supports 22 languages and provides quick and accurate translations.
The conversation appears as text on the screen, and there is also a voice option for those who prefer listening instead of reading. This makes the service helpful for all types of users, including those who are not comfortable reading.
This platform will make the banking easier, especially for people who face difficulty due to language differences. It will save time, reduce confusion, and improve overall service quality at bank branches.
It also ensures that customers clearly understand the information given by bank staff, leading to better and faster service.
Bank of Baroda’s Managing Director and CEO, Dr. Debadatta Chand, said that bob SAMVAD show the bank’s commitment to using technology to improve customer service.
The platform has been developed by the bank itself using advanced AI tools for speech and language processing.
During the event, Shri M. Nagaraju also visited “bob Forest,” a green project by the blank. It is a 6,000 sq. ft. green space at the bank’s office in Mumbai that helps promote clean air and biodiversity.
This initiative is part of the bank’s efforts towards environmental sustainability, along with other projects like green deposits and green bonds.
In the first phase, bob SAMVAD will be introduced in 250 branches across states like Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra.
Later, the bank plans to expand this platform across all its branches in the country.
