The Union Cabinet has approved the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana – IV (PMGSY-IV) for the financial years 2024-25 to 2028-29, with a total outlay of ₹70,125 crore. This initiative aims to construct 62,500 kilometers of roads to connect 25,000 previously unconnected habitations, enhancing accessibility and promoting socio-economic development in remote rural areas.
Financial Outlay: ₹70,125 crore, with a central share of ₹49,087.50 crore and a state share of ₹21,037.50 crore.
Coverage: Targeting 25,000 habitations with a population of 500+ in plains, 250+ in Northeast & Hill States/UTs, special category areas, and 100+ in LWE affected districts, based on the Census 2011.
Infrastructure Development: Construction of 62,500 km of all-weather roads and necessary bridges to provide connectivity.
Enhanced Connectivity: The scheme will provide all-weather road connectivity to 25,000 unconnected habitations, linking them to educational, health, and market centers.
Socio-Economic Impact: The new roads are expected to be catalysts for socio-economic development in rural areas.
Advanced Construction Practices: Incorporation of international benchmarks such as Cold Mix Technology, Waste Plastic, and Full Depth Reclamation, along with the use of construction waste like Fly Ash and Steel Slag.
Planning and Execution: Road alignment planning and DPR preparation will be facilitated through the PM Gati Shakti portal.
