Cabinet Extends Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana III Till 2028 With ₹83,977 Crore Outlay

Union Cabinet chaired by Honorable Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi has approved the extension of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana-III (PMGSY-III) till the March 2028. With the revised outlay of ₹83,977 crore this scheme aims to strengthen rural connectivity by upgrading roads connectivity and link villages to markets, schools and the healthcare facilities.

Key Highlights of PMGSY-III Extention

The extension of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY-III) will ensuring to complete the rural infrastructure in India and boost the economy and the connectivity.

Also the cabinet has signaled to increase in the budget from ₹80,250 crore to ₹83,977 crore.

The revised timeline includes completion of,

  • The roads and bridges in plain and hilly areas by the March 2028 and bridges in hilly regions by March 2029.
  • Additionally the earlier sanctioned but unawarded projects can now be re-taken up for tender allotment and it will ensure that that no pending infrastructure projects remain.

Focus of PMGSY-III

PMGSY-III primarily focuses on to the upgrade through routes and major rural links and which are crucial for connecting rural areas to the key service centers.

These roads aim to link villages with the,

  • Gramin Agricultural Markets (GrAMs), higher secondary schools and nearby hospitals and thereby to improve the accessibility to essential services and economic opportunities.
  • The scheme is not just about the connectivity but also the quality and durability of the rural infrastructure which will ensures the long-term benefits.

Boost to Rural Economy and Market Access

Good road connectivity plays the important role in the rural economy. With the proper road structure farmers and small businesses can access the markets more efficiently, reducing transportation costs and increasing profitability.
