Chhattisgarh Leads Big States in APAAR ID Creation for Students

Chhattisgarh has made a major stride in strengthening digital education systems by leading large states in the creation of APAAR IDs for students. As of early January 2026, the state has achieved nearly 89 per cent coverage, reflecting strong administrative coordination and timely implementation of a key national education reform aimed at creating secure digital academic identities.

Why in News?

Chhattisgarh has emerged as the top-performing large state in generating APAAR (Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry) IDs. The state has covered over 88% of enrolled students, moving rapidly towards the national deadline set by the central government.

What is APAAR ID

  • APAAR ID is a permanent digital academic identity provided to students to securely store their academic records, achievements, certificates and credits.
  • It ensures seamless academic continuity when students move across schools, boards or states.
  • The system improves transparency, reduces paperwork and supports nationwide academic mobility.
  • By digitizing student records, APAAR also strengthens governance in the education sector and aligns with India’s broader push towards digital public infrastructure under education reforms.

Chhattisgarh’s Overall Performance

  • Chhattisgarh has generated 50,60,941 APAAR IDs out of 57,10,207 students enrolled in 57,045 schools, achieving 88.63% coverage as of January 7, 2026. This performance places the state ahead of other large states in implementing the system.
  • The achievement highlights effective coordination between the education department, district administration and school-level officials.
  • It also reflects the state government’s commitment to ensuring that students are not left out of national digital education initiatives.

District-Level Achievements

  • Several districts in Chhattisgarh have shown exceptional progress. Bemetara recorded the highest coverage at 96.40%, followed closely by Rajnandgaon at 96.38%.
  • Districts such as Raigarh, Korea, Raipur, Korba, Dhamtari, Durg and Balodabazar have crossed 93% coverage. Except for a few districts like Narayanpur, Bijapur, Sukma, Balrampur and Dantewada, all others have achieved over 80% APAAR ID generation, indicating widespread success across the state.

Implementation Strategy and Timeline

  • The state government has prioritized APAAR ID creation across all districts. Teachers and officials are working on a mission mode to ensure that remaining students are covered.
  • The central government has directed all states to complete APAAR ID generation by January 31, and Chhattisgarh is making time-bound and coordinated efforts to meet this deadline.
  • Continuous monitoring, district-wise targets and administrative support have played a key role in maintaining steady progress.
