Why Chief Ministers Resign After Elections

In the India’s parliamentary system it is a constitutional convention for the Chief Minister  and the council of ministers has to resign after assembly election results. CM and his CoM has to resign despite their party or alliance had secured the victory in elections. This will allows the Governor to invite the newly elected legislative party’s leader to formally form the government.

Till then the outgoing government then continues in the caretaker role until the swearing in of the new ministry. This process ensures the constitutional continuity and smooth transition of power.

BJP Leadership to Decide Legislature Party Leader

The central BJP leadership has appointed J. P. Nadda and Nayab Singh Saini as the central observers to oversee the selection of the BJP legislature party leader in the State of Assam.

According to the party sources the newly elected MLAs will meet in  upcoming days to elect their leader for the assembly and then then stake claim to form the next government.

Although the official announcement is still pending but the BJP sources suggest that Himanta Biswa Sarma is expected to continue in the top post after the NDA’s strong electoral performance.
