Why Chief Ministers Resign After Elections
In the India’s parliamentary system it is a constitutional convention for the Chief Minister and the council of ministers has to resign after assembly election results. CM and his CoM has to resign despite their party or alliance had secured the victory in elections. This will allows the Governor to invite the newly elected legislative party’s leader to formally form the government.
Till then the outgoing government then continues in the caretaker role until the swearing in of the new ministry. This process ensures the constitutional continuity and smooth transition of power.
