Coal India Appoints CMD B. Sairam as Chief Executive Officer
Coal India Limited has appointed its Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) B. Sairam as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company. The decision approved by the board came into effect from 15 December 2025, and is aimed at strengthening top-level management at India’s largest coal producer, which plays a pivotal role in ensuring the country’s energy security.
Before becoming CMD of Coal India, Sairam served as Chairman cum Managing Director of Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Coal India. At NCL, he led major projectization, financing, and capacity expansion initiatives.
