The Department of Posts has released a commemorative postage stamp at Dras, Kargil in Ladakh, marking the Silver Jubilee of Kargil Vijay Diwas. This special edition celebrates the 25th anniversary of India’s victory in the Kargil War, acknowledging the exceptional bravery, determination, and sacrifice of the armed forces.
On this day twenty-five years ago, the Indian Armed Forces, through remarkable courage and relentless effort, expelled Pakistani intruders from the strategic heights of Dras, Kargil, and Batalik Sectors during Operation Vijay. Known as the Kargil War, this operation exemplifies the indomitable spirit and heroism of Indian soldiers and officers.
The newly issued stamp pays tribute to the heroes of the Kargil conflict and their enduring legacy. The widespread media coverage of the war, facilitated by satellite television, brought the valor of soldiers into every Indian home, making places like Kargil, Batalik, Dras, Mashkoh, and Turtuk symbols of national pride. This stamp not only commemorates the historical victory but also ensures that the bravery and sacrifices of the soldiers are honored and remembered by future generations.
Union Minister of Communications and Development of North Eastern Region, Jyotiraditya M Scindia, emphasized the significance of the stamp as a tribute to the soldiers’ heroism. He praised India Post for this meaningful issue and urged citizens to purchase the stamp as a symbol of respect and gratitude for those who have defended the nation.
This commemorative stamp serves as a lasting reminder of the heroism displayed during Operation Vijay in 1999 and reflects the nation’s deep gratitude for the sacrifices made by its soldiers.
