The 23rd Commonwealth Games are being held in Glasgow, Scotland, from 23 July to 2 August 2026, featuring athletes from 74 Commonwealth Games Associations (CGAs) competing across 215 medal events in 10 sports. Even before the competition gained momentum, India secured its first medal thanks to boxer Lovlina Borgohain, who advanced directly to the women’s 75kg boxing semifinals.
Australia has once again emerged as the early leader in the medal standings, continuing the dominance it displayed at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

The 23rd Commonwealth Games are taking place in Glasgow, Scotland, from 23 July to 2 August 2026. Around 74 Commonwealth Games Associations are participating, making it one of the biggest sporting events among Commonwealth nations.
A total of 215 medal events are being contested across 10 sports, including several Para sport disciplines.

India achieved a unique milestone by winning its first medal even before the official medal events fully commenced.
Olympic bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain received a bye in the women’s 75kg boxing quarterfinal, automatically advancing to the semifinal.
Since both losing semifinalists receive bronze medals in Commonwealth Games boxing, Lovlina is guaranteed at least a bronze medal.

Lovlina will face Tarona Taafaki of Tuvalu in the semifinal on 31 July 2026.
The Glasgow Games provide Lovlina with an opportunity to make up for her disappointing campaign at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games, where she was eliminated in the quarterfinals after a closely contested 2-3 split decision defeat against Rosie Eccles of Wales in the 70kg category.
