Indian Defence Ministry Signs Rs 3,700 Crore Contracts with BEL to Enhance Air Force Capabilities

The Indian Defence Ministry has recently signed two contracts with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) worth more than Rs 3,700 crore, with the aim to enhance the operational capabilities of the Indian Air Force. Under the Buy Indian – IDMM (Indigenously Designed Developed and Manufactured) category, both projects are part of the ongoing vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat. The first contract, worth over Rs 2,800 crore, involves the supply of Medium Power Radars (MPR) ‘Arudhra’, which have been designed and developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and will be manufactured by BEL. The second contract, with a cost of approximately Rs 950 crore, relates to Radar Warning Receivers (RWR).

BEL Contracts to Boost Indian Air Force Capabilities and Manufacturing Ecosystem

The successful trials of the MPR have already been conducted by the Indian Air Force, and the RWR has been designed to enhance the capabilities of Su-30 MKI aircraft. In addition to Radar Warning Receivers, the projects are aimed at improving the surveillance, detection, tracking, and Electronic Warfare capabilities of the air force. They also aim to boost the manufacturing capability in the industrial ecosystem and generate employment of around two lakh man-days over a period of three and a half years.
