Delhi LG Kicks Off 2-Day Global 'Patang Utsav' At Baansera
Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena inaugurated the much-anticipated ‘Patang Utsav’ at Baansera, the city’s first bamboo-theme park located at Sarai Kale Khan on the scenic banks of the Yamuna River. The two-day festival, organized by the Delhi Development Authority, promises a visual feast as over 30 professional kitists from diverse states, including Rajasthan, Sikkim, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Punjab, Lakshadweep, and Gujarat, showcase their artistic prowess in the sky.
Kites of various shapes, sizes, and colors, ranging from the tricolour to intricate designs like trains and eagles, will adorn the sky during this vibrant festival. The event seeks to celebrate the diverse artistry and creativity that the kite-flying tradition encompasses, offering spectators a delightful visual treat.
Speaking at the inauguration, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena commended the Delhi Development Authority for spearheading the festival and transforming previously degraded landscapes into open green spaces. Expressing his appreciation, Saxena encouraged the people of Delhi to actively participate in the festivities, inviting them to relish the occasion with their family and friends amidst the natural beauty of the surroundings.
The ‘Patang Utsav’ has been meticulously planned as a recreational opportunity for families and individuals to celebrate the festival amidst the enchanting atmosphere of Baansera. The event aligns with auspicious occasions such as Lohri, Makar Sankranti, Bihu, Maghi, Uttarayani, and Pongal, providing a perfect setting for joyful celebrations.
In an effort to enhance the ecological character of Yamuna floodplains and create a more people-friendly space, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena laid the foundation of ‘Baansera’ in August 2022. Remarkably, this bamboo-themed park was developed in a record time of just six months. The park boasts over 30,000 special varieties of bamboo saplings, sourced from Assam and other parts of the country, creating a green haven for residents and visitors alike.
The inaugural ceremony witnessed the presence of distinguished guests, including Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture Meenakshi Lekhi and Delhi Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar. Their attendance underscored the cultural and recreational significance of the event, emphasizing its role in fostering community spirit and celebrating the rich traditions of kite flying.
