DEPwD And COA Join Forces To Support Persons With Disabilities

The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD) is collaborating with the Council of Architecture (COA) to enhance inclusivity and accessibility for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) in public spaces and buildings. This partnership signifies a significant advancement in architectural practices and aims to raise awareness about designing environments that accommodate the needs of PwDs.

Mutual Commitment

  • The MOU between DEPwD and COA underscores their shared commitment to organizing workshops, seminars, and training programs.
  • These initiatives will include integrating essential course modules into the Bachelor of Architecture curriculum to educate future architects about the significance of creating accessible environments for PwDs.

Certified Training of Master Trainers on Universal Accessibility

  • COA and DEPwD have concluded a certified Training of Master Trainers on Universal Accessibility.
  • This training program aims to equip architects, educators, and others with the necessary knowledge and skills to assess accessibility in the built environment.

Phases of the Training Program

  • The Training of Master Trainers on Universal Accessibility comprised two phases.
  • Phase-I, held online in September 2023, focused on theoretical aspects.
  • Phase-II, conducted on March 11th and 12th, 2024, provided participants with practical experiences, including conducting access audits of buildings.

  • Shri Rajesh Aggarwal, Secretary of DEPwD, and Ar. Abhay Purohit, President of COA, honored master trainers and distinguished speakers for their significant contributions to promoting accessibility.
