Dhiraj Seth Gets Nepal’s Honorary General Rank in Kathmandu

The Indian Army Chief General Dhiraj Seth was awarded with the honorary General rank of the Nepali Army on August 17, 2026, when he visited the Capital of Nepal, Kathmandu as part of an official visit. The honour was bestowed upon him by Nepal President Ram Chandra Paudel. This particular tradition of the military ties between India and Nepal goes back to the year 1950. General Seth was also accorded a Guard of Honour at the Headquarters of the Nepali Army and paid homage to the Army Pavilion at Tundikhel.

Seth Awarded Nepal’s Honorary General Rank

The honouring of the rank is a time-honoured tradition between the Indian Army and the Nepali Army.

The practice of awarding the honorary rank of General to the Army chiefs of each other goes back to 1950 and is taken as a manifestation of the cordial relations maintained by the two armies for quite a long time.

The honour of the honorary General rank for Seth was confirmed by the Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava and was said to be a part of the “unique tradition” of the Indian and Nepali armies.

Guard of Honour for General Seth

As part of his engagements in Kathmandu, General Seth has been accorded a Guard of Honour at the headquarters of the Nepali Army.

In addition to the above, he also paid his respects by laying a wreath at the Army Pavilion in Tundikhel.

The Indian Army Chief arrived in Kathmandu on August 16th accompanied by a five-person delegation. He was received at Tribhuvan International Airport by Nepal’s Vice Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Pradeep Jung KC.

After landing, the Indian Army Chief has also met with the Indian Ambassador Naveen Srivastava.

Military Dialogues in Kathmandu

One of the most important aspects of the visit of General Seth will be the bilateral talks that he will have with his Nepali counterpart, General Ashok Raj Sigdel, at the Nepali Army Headquarters.

He is also supposed to receive a briefing from the Director General of Military Operations of the Nepali Army on relevant issues.
