Haryana, a state in northern India, is known for its rich cultural heritage and agricultural contributions. However, like many other regions, it faces challenges in terms of educational development. Literacy rates in Haryana have seen improvement over the years, but some districts still lag behind. One such district with the lowest literacy rate in Haryana is Mewat, also known as Nuh.
Haryana, a northern Indian state, was formed on 1 November 1966 after being separated from Punjab. Covering just 1.4% of India’s land area (44,212 km²), it is ranked 21st in size. The state capital is Chandigarh, shared with Punjab, while Faridabad, part of the National Capital Region, is its most populous city. Haryana is known for its rich cultural heritage and significant contributions to agriculture.
Haryana is divided into 6 administrative divisions, comprising 22 districts and 72 sub-divisions. It has 93 revenue tehsils, 50 sub-tehsils, and 140 community development blocks. The state includes 154 cities and towns, along with 7,356 villages and 6,222 village panchayats, showcasing its well-structured administrative setup that facilitates governance across both urban and rural areas.
Haryana’s literacy rate stands at 75.55%, surpassing the national average of 74.04%. The male literacy rate is notably higher at 84.06%, while the female literacy rate is 65.94%. This reflects a significant gender gap, though overall literacy in the state remains relatively strong, highlighting ongoing efforts to improve education, especially among women.

The district faces significant educational challenges, particularly in rural areas, where access to quality education is limited. Efforts are ongoing to address these issues and improve literacy rates, especially among women and children.
