Malayalam Actor and theatre artist E A Rajendran passed away at the age of 71 on March 26, 2026 after following a prolonged illness. It is the loss for the malyalam film industry and theatre history. He left behind the rich legacy across theatre, cinema and television. He was known for his versatile performances. Rajendran had shaped the unique identity in the Malayalam entertainment industry. He gained the respect as both a performer and director over decades of work.
E A Rajendran’s journey was began in theatre where he first discovered his passion for acting during his school days in Thrissur district.
His early involvement on the stage performances has laid the foundation for a lifelong career in the performing arts.
He later trained at the prestigious National School of Drama in Delhi and where he graduated with first rank.
Further he also enhanced the skills, and then he pursued a television course at the Film and Television Institute of India.
His contribution to theatre was significant and widely appreciated. As one of his major achievements come when he adapted a Russian novel into a stage play.
And this play had won the Kerala State Government Award for Best Play in 1987. This marked a milestone in his theatrical career.
In cinema he appeared in around 60 Malayalam films and also portray the diverse roles ranging from villains to character artists.
His performances were noted for their depth and realism and making him a familiar face among audiences.

Beyond the arts Rajendran has also served as the Chairman of the State Horticulture Corporation and which shows incorporation to public relations.

From the early days in school theatre to becoming the respected figure in Malayalam cinema his journey has inspired many artists.
