Elon Musk to Rename SpaceXAI as SpaceXSI
SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk has confirmed that SpaceX’s artificial intelligence division, SpaceXAI, will be renamed SpaceXSI, with “SI” standing for Super Intelligence. Musk confirmed the proposed name change on social media platform X.
The rebranding follows a recent move by the U.S. administration to promote the terminology “Super Intelligence” (SI) instead of “Artificial Intelligence” (AI) in executive-branch communications.
On 29 September 2026, U.S. President Donald Trump signed an Executive Order titled “Inaugurating the Era of Super Intelligence.” The order directs executive departments and agencies to use the terms “Super Intelligence” and “SI” in official correspondence, public communications, policy documents and other non-statutory documents, subject to applicable law.
Following this terminology shift, Musk said SpaceXAI would adopt the new name SpaceXSI.
The Executive Order also directs the Assistant to the President for Science and Technology (APST) to propose a federal definition of “Super Intelligence” and “SI.”
The APST is required to examine how such a definition could relate to or modify the existing statutory definition of artificial intelligence and recommend any additional executive actions that may be required.
The change is primarily a rebranding of terminology, aligning the unit’s name with the U.S. administration’s newly promoted term “Super Intelligence.”
