Finn Allen Creates History With Fastest T20 World Cup Century

New Zealand opener Finn Allen smashed the fastest T20 World Cup hundred. Ton came during the ongoing T20 World Cup semi final against South Africa in Kolkata. Allen reached his century in just 33 balls and breaks the previous men’s record of 47 balls by Chris Gayle in 2016. The stunning knock also made Allen the first batter in history to score a century in a T20 World Cup knockout match. His explosive innings helped New Zealand dominate the game and storemd the team into the finale.

  • This broke Chris Gayle’s previous record of a 47 ball century set during the 2016 T20 World Cup.
  • Allen’s knock is now the fastest century in T20 World Cup history (men and women combined) & surpassing Deandra Dottin’s 38 ball hundred in 2010.
  • The Finn Allen 33 ball century also became the fastest T20I hundred for New Zealand and he also beat Glenn Phillips 46 ball record set in 2020.

  • The Finn Allen fastest T20 World Cup hundred is the joint fastest century by a Full Member nation in T20Is which is matching Sikandar Raza’s 33-ball hundred.

Only two players have scored faster T20I centuries overall,

  • Sahil Chauhan (27 balls, Estonia)
  • Muhammad Fahad (29 balls, Turkey)

Allen’s century had a strike rate above 300, placing it among the few T20I centuries with a 300+ strike rate.

He also became the first player to score a century in a T20 World Cup knockout match.

  • Allen reached his half century in just 19 balls, the fastest fifty in a T20 World Cup knockout match.
  • He smashed 18 boundaries, equaling the record for most boundaries in a single men’s T20 World Cup innings.

  • His powerful innings helped New Zealand chase the target at a run rate of 13.48.
