First Life-Size Statue of Swami Vivekananda Unveiled in Seattle
Historic moment for the culture of India as the first ever life size statue of the Swami Vivekananda in the United States and it was unveiled in downtown Seattle. The statue was installed at the bustling Westlake Square and this bronze statue celebrate the legacy of the Indian spiritual leader and philosopher. The unveiling ceremony of the statue was held on the 12th of April, 2026.
This newly installed statue at the Westlake Square is not just the symbolic structure and it also represents the historic first. Seattle has become the first city in the United States to host the life size statue of Swami Vivekananda.
The statue is sculpted by the renowned Indian artist Naresh Kumar Kumawat and it stands at the prominently in one of the city’s busiest public spaces. Westlake Square witnesses the over 400,000 visitors daily and making it the ideal location for such a globally significant figure.

The statue was officially unveiled by Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson along with him India’s Consul General in Seattle Mr. Prakash Gupta in the presence of the local leaders, community representatives and the members of the Indian American diaspora.
At that ceremony Mayor Wilson stressed that the installation showcase the Seattle’s inclusive identity and the multicultural spirit.
She also highlighted how the such initiatives will help strengthen people to people connections across borders.
The Consulate General of India has described the the event as a symbolic journey from the Chicago 1893 to Seattle 2026 and which is marking the Vivekananda’s continuous relevance in modern times.
The statue has been gifted by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) which is the organization under the Government of India that which promotes cultural exchange globally.
Also the launch coincided with the celebration of ICCR Day which is reinforcing the India’s broader cultural diplomacy efforts.
