Indira Gandhi, who had faced a setback in the post-emergency general elections of 1977, successfully contested the Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha by-election in 1978, an event considered crucial for her resurgence in Indian politics. Entry into Politics

Mr. Chandre Gowda, a lawyer by profession, entered the realm of politics through the Congress party in 1971. His political journey was marked by multiple successes and noteworthy contributions to the nation.

Multiple Terms in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha

He served as a Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha thrice and once in the Rajya Sabha. His electoral victories in the Chikkamagaluru Parliamentary Constituency on a Congress ticket in 1971 and 1977 showcased his political acumen.

Following his selfless act for Indira Gandhi, Mr. Gowda became a Member of the Legislative Council, representing Congress from 1978 to 1983, and later served as a minister in the Devaraj Urs cabinet.
