Former Uttarakhand CM B. C. Khanduri Passes Away, Nation Mourns Veteran BJP Leader

Major General (Retd.) Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri, the former Uttarakhand Chief Minister and senior BJP leader, has passed away in Dehradun after a prolonged illness. Former Uttarakhand Chief Minister B C Khanduri passed away on 19th May, 2026, while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Dehradun.

He had reportedly been ill for a long period of time and was receiving medical care at Max Super Speciality Hospital.

His son Manish Khanduri has confirmed the news.

His passing has triggered the condolences from several political leaders and supporters across the country.

Who Was B C Khanduri?

Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri was a veteran Army officer and served the nation, after he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party and later becoming a respected politician.

Before entering into the politics, he served in the Indian Army and retired with the rank of Major General.

His military background has shaped his image as a disciplined, efficient and no-nonsense administrator.

He later became one of Uttarakhand’s most prominent political faces.

B C Khanduri Political Journey

Khanduri served as the Chief Minister of the state of Uttarakhand twice.

His first term was from the year 2007 to 2009.

He returned for a second term from 2011 to 2012.

He was also elected multiple times as a Member of Parliament and represented the Garhwal constituency in the Lok Sabha.
