Government Launches Fire Safety Week 2026 to Improve Hospital Safety Standards
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has launched the Fire Safety Week 2026 from May 4 to May 10, 2026. This initiative will began with a nationwide pledge which is led by Union Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava which highlights the urgent need for improved safety standards in hospitals. Along with this Fire Safety Week the central government has also introduced the comprehensive National Guidelines on Fire and Life Safety in Healthcare Facilities.
This week-long campaign will have strong emphasis on the theme of ‘Safe Schools, Safe Hospitals, and a Fire-Safety Aware Society: Together for Fire Prevention.’

Respectable Union Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava have emphasized that fire safety is a shared responsibility and called for the regular audits and compliance monitoring through the IHIP portal.
Also the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) which is represented by Krishna S. Vatsa has highlighted the need for a proactive and systems-based approach.
