Govt Launches First-Ever ASISSE Survey to Track Services Sector Data

To strengthen the economic data system of India the first ever Annual Survey of Incorporated Services Sector Enterprises (ASISSE) was launched in April 2026. This is introduced by the National Statistics Office under the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation (MoSPI) and this survey aims to capture the detailed data on the services sector. Alongside with survey the user friendly guide has also released to improve the awareness, transparency and participation among the enterprises.

What is ASISSE and Its Importance

The Annual Survey of Incorporated Services Sector Enterprises (ASISSE) is the landmark initiative which designed to create the comprehensive database of India’s incorporated services sector.

This services sector is the backbone of country’s economy and it contributing more than 50% to GDP and generating crores of jobs. Despite it hold vital role there has been a lack of the structured and detailed official data so ASISSE aims to address this thing.

This survey will cover key service industries like the,

  • Trade and transport
  • Hospitality and tourism
  • Information technology (IT)
  • Education and healthcare

ASISSE will help the policymakers to make evidence-based decisions and track sectoral growth more effectively.

Key Highlights of ASISSE 2026

The survey brings the several important features and will make it a crucial development in India’s statistical ecosystem.

First nationwide survey will be focusing exclusively on the incorporated service enterprises

  • It Covers all States and Union Territories
  • Reference period from the Financial Year 2024-25
  • Will take sample size of over 1.21 lakh enterprises
  • Uses the GSTN database as the sampling framework
  • Data collection via a secure web-based portal

The survey targets companies registered under the Companies Act, 1956/2013 and Limited Liability Partnership (LLP) Act, 2008.

How ASISSE Complements Existing Surveys

ASISSE is not the standalone survey but it completes the broader framework of surveys conducted by MoSPI.

  • Annual Survey of Industries (ASI): Where it covers the manufacturing sector.
  • Annual Survey of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises (ASUSE): Covers the informal, non-agricultural sectors

After the induction of ASISSE India now has the holistic data system to covering the entire non-agricultural economy.

‘Know Your Survey’ Guide: Making Data Collection Simple

To ensure the smooth participation NSO has released a detailed guide which named ‘Know Your Survey: A User Guide to ASISSE.’

This document is designed to explain survey objectives in simple language and to clarify definitions and concept.
It also address frequently asked questions and will help enterprises understand reporting requirements.

Legal Framework and Data Security

The survey is conducted under the provisions of the,

  • Collection of Statistics Act, 2008 (Which was amended in 2017)
  • Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Act, 2023

This data will be collected through the online secured system and will ensuring confidentiality and reliability.
