Guntur Municipal Corporation Honoured at Vienna for Women Empowerment Initiative
Guntur Municipal Corporation has won the Gender Equality Mobilization (GEM) Award 2026. The honor was presented at the global stage in Vienna (Austria) and recognizing the civic body’s innovative step to deploying over the 200 women as the electric auto drivers for door-to-door waste collection. This initiative has not only promotes the clean energy and but it is the efficient waste management. It also have empowers the women by creating sustainable livelihood opportunities in urban services.
This award was conferred by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization during the International Day of Women in the Industry 2026 celebrations which was held in Vienna.
