Harry Brook Scores Fastest Double Century in ODI Cricket History
England’s white-ball captain Harry Brook created history on October 22, 2026, by scoring the fastest double century in men’s One Day International (ODI) cricket. Brook smashed 202 runs off 116 balls against Sri Lanka in the tri-series match at Rawalpindi, Pakistan.
Brook reached the 200-run milestone in just 114 deliveries, breaking the previous record held by India captain Shubman Gill, who had reached his double century in 117 balls against the West Indies in September 2026.
Brook also became the first England batter to score a double century in men’s ODI cricket, surpassing Ben Stokes’ previous England record of 182 runs against New Zealand in 2023.
Brook reached 200 in 114 balls, beating Shubman Gill’s previous record of 117 balls. This made Brook the fastest batter to score a double century in men’s ODI history.
Brook became the first English batter to score 200 in a men’s ODI. His final score of 202 also surpassed Ben Stokes’ previous England record of 182 against New Zealand in 2023.
Brook struck 21 fours and 10 sixes, scoring 144 runs through boundaries. This set a new record for the most boundary runs by an England batter in a single ODI innings.
England finished their innings at 429/4 in 50 overs. According to the ICC report, this was the highest team total in men’s ODI cricket in Pakistan and the fourth-highest ODI total for England.
England’s innings began with Tom Banton scoring 50 and Ben Duckett making 29. The opening pair added 74 runs before both batters were dismissed in quick succession.
Brook then accelerated the innings alongside Joe Root, who scored 69, and Will Jacks, who remained unbeaten on 66. Brook’s innings featured 21 fours and 10 sixes, and he was dismissed by Janith Liyanage on the final delivery of England’s innings.
Despite England’s massive total and Brook’s historic performance, Sri Lanka completed a remarkable chase. Sri Lanka scored 433/8 while chasing 430, winning by two wickets with one ball remaining.
The successful chase became the second-highest run chase in men’s ODI history.
Pavan Rathnayake led Sri Lanka’s response with 130 runs off 106 balls. Avishka Fernando and Dasun Shanaka scored 97 runs each, while Janith Liyanage contributed an unbeaten 61.
