Holi Around the World
Holi, known as the “Festivals of Colours,” is one of the most joyful Hindu festivals. It is celebrated with great enthusiasm across India and many other countries. The festival lasts for two days – Holika Dahan on the first day and Rangwali Holi on the second day. Holi marks the victory of good over evil and is celebrated with bonfires, colors, music, dance and sweets.
In 2025, Holika Dahan will be performed on Thursday, March 13, while the main Holi celebration will take place on Friday, March 14.
Holi is linked to a famous story from Hindu mythology. According to the legend, a demon king Hiranyakashyap wanted everyone to worship him. However, his son Prahlad was a great devotee of Lord Vishnu. This made Hiranyakashyap angry, and he planned to kill Prahlad.
Hiranyakashyap’s sister Holika had a magical shawl that protected her from fire. She tricked Prahlad into sitting on her lap inside a burning fire. But, due to his faith in Lord Vishnu, Prahlad survived, while Holika was burnt to ashes. This event symbolizes the victory of truth and devotion over evil.
Holi in 2025 will be celebrated on Friday, March 14. It is a festival of colors, joy and togetherness, where people play with gulaal, water balloons and colored water. Families and friends come together to enjoy music, dance and festive sweets liHoli 2025 Date: Holi and Holika Dahan 2025
