In a recent on-time performance review conducted by aviation analytics firm Cirium, Hyderabad and Bengaluru airports have emerged as global leaders in punctuality, securing the second and third ranks, respectively. With over 84 per cent on-time departures, these airports have showcased their commitment to efficiency and reliability in air travel.
The impressive on-time performance of Hyderabad and Bengaluru airports can be attributed to a combination of infrastructure improvements and the significant presence of IndiGo, one of India’s leading airlines. IndiGo, which stood fourth among Asia Pacific airlines with over 82 per cent on-time arrivals, plays a crucial role in contributing to the punctuality at these airports. Approximately half of all flights at Bengaluru and 65 per cent in Hyderabad are operated by IndiGo.
The dominance of IndiGo in the operational landscape of Hyderabad and Bengaluru airports underscores the airline’s commitment to maintaining punctuality. As a major player in the aviation industry, IndiGo’s operational efficiency contributes significantly to the overall on-time performance of these airports. The strategic partnership between the airline and the airports appears to be a key factor in achieving such commendable results.
While Hyderabad and Bengaluru took the spotlight, Kolkata airport also earned recognition by securing the ninth position in the medium airports category with an impressive 83.9 per cent on-time flights. Cirium’s definition of on-time flights as arrivals within 15 minutes of the scheduled gate arrival adds further credibility to the achievements of these airports.
Cirium’s on-time performance metric is defined as a flight arriving within 15 minutes of the scheduled gate arrival. For airports, it means departing within 15 minutes of the scheduled departure. This industry-standard definition ensures a fair and consistent evaluation of punctuality across airlines and airports.
