The close battle for ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2027 is shaping up with 10 teams earning their qualification for the tournament. The 14-team World Cup will be held jointly between South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia, signifying the return of a 14-team ODI World Cup tournament following 10-team tournaments in 2019 and 2023.

With South Africa and Zimbabwe having earned automatic qualifications due to hosting duties, eight teams have made it into the tournament via the direct qualification route. The latest entry to the list of teams is that of Afghanistan, which leaves four spots to be clinched at the World Cup qualifier.

South Africa & Zimbabwe to Have Automatic Places in 2027

South Africa and Zimbabwe are two nations that will be participating in the 2027 World Cup as the host nations. They are both Full Member nations of the International Cricket Council.

It is important that they are Full Member nations because the qualification is automatic for the host nations.

This means that there will be a great home advantage in the 2027 World Cup from the two nations while the third host nation, Namibia, will have to struggle for the qualification.

Why Namibia Did Not Qualify Automatically?
