ICC Suspends Cricket Canada Membership Over Governance Breaches

The International Cricket Council has suspended the Cricket Canada membership with the immediate effect. ICC cited the serious breaches of governance and membership obligations.  This decision was taken during the ICC Board meeting which was held in Ahmedabad and it marks one of the important action taken by the cricket governing body in the recent years.

The ICC Board announced that the Cricket Canada’s membership has been suspended due to the “serious breaches of membership obligations.”

This decision follows the growing concerns regarding the administration and governance of cricket in Canada. By suspending the Cricket Canada’s membership the ICC has signaled the its commitment to maintaining the transparency, accountability and good governance standards among its the member nations.

This suspension takes effect immediately and it will remain in place until Cricket Canada satisfies the conditions laid down by the the ICC for reinstatement.

Background of  Governance Concerns and Allegations

The action of ICC comes after a report by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) raised the serious concerns regarding Cricket Canada’s administration.

The documentary aired in the April 2026 reportedly highlighted the allegations involving the,

• Governance irregularities
• Administrative misconduct
• Concerns related to the match manipulation
• Threats of violence involving certain officials and players

These allegations have intensified the scrutiny of Cricket Canada’s operations and it contributed to growing calls for reforms within the organization.

Canadian National Teams Will Continue Playing

Despite the suspension  the ICC has clarified that Canadian players and national teams will not be disadvantaged by the administrative issues and affecting Cricket Canada.

The governing body also stated that Canada’s men’s and women’s national teams will remain eligible to participate in to the ICC tournaments and international competitions during the suspension period.

This decision reflcest the ICC’s intention to protect the athletes who have no direct role in to the governance-related matters.

Financial Support to Continue Under ICC Oversight

The ICC has also confirmed that the financial assistance to Cricket Canada will continue during the suspension period.

However, the funding will be distributed through the controlled mechanism supervised by the ICC management. This funds can only be used for approved national team program and cricket development activities.

This arrangement is designed to ensure that the resources are utilized appropriately while preventing the misuse during the period of administrative oversight.

The move balances accountability with the need to sustain cricket operations in Canada.

Conditions for Reinstatement

The ICC Board has decided to provide the Cricket Canada with a set of conditions which they must be fulfilled before membership can be restored.

These conditions are expected to focus on to the,

• Institutional Stability
• Compliance Monitoring

The progress of these reforms will be monitored by the ICC Normalisation Committee along with the ICC management.

Reinstatement will only occur once the ICC Board is satisfied that all conditions have been fully implemented
