India Conducts Successful Flight-Test of Indigenous RudraM-II Air-to-Surface Missile

The Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and the Indian Air Fore (IAF) has successfully conducted the flight tests of the RudraM-II Air to Surface Missile on 2nd of June 2026. This missile was tested under the challenging operational conditions and it successfully struck its designated target with the remarkable precision.

What is the RudraM-II Missile?

RudraM-II is an indigenously developed air to surface missile designed to launched from the fighter aircraft against ground-based targets. It is the part of the India’s effort to develop advanced precision guided weapons which are capable of to neutralizing enemy assets from the long distances.

The missile ha been developed by the Research Centre Imarat (RCI), Hyderabad and it serves as the nodal laboratory under DRDO. Several other DRDO laboratories and industry have partners and contributed to this project.

Successful Flight-Test Conducted

The latest flight tests were carried out from an airborne platform under the extreme release conditions to validate the performance of the missile and its subsystems.

After its release. the missile has successfully navigated towards a predefined target and achieved pin point accuracy. The data collected by advanced tracking instruments deployed by the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur and all the objectives of mission were achieved successfully.

This test validated the,

  • Missile guidance and navigation systems
  • Flight control mechanisms
  • Target acquisition capability
  • Accuracy under challenging operational conditions
  • Overall system reliability

Role of Indigenous Development in RudraM-II

One of the most important aspects of the RudraM-II program is its strong indigenous foundation. The missile has been developed through the collaboration among the multiple DRDO laboratories and Indian defense industries.

Key organizations involved in this test are,

  • Research Centre Imarat (RCI), Hyderabad
  • Defense Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL)
  • High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL)
  • Armament Research & Development Establishment (ARDE)
  • Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur
  • Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL)
  • Regional Centre for Military Airworthiness
  • Missile System Quality Assurance Agency

This collaborative effort reflects the India’s growing defense manufacturing ecosystem under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

Significance for the India’s Defense Preparedness

The successful testing of the RudraM-II enhances the India’s ability to conduct the precision strikes against enemy targets while maintaining a safe stand off distance.

RudraM-II is expected to strengthen the IAF’s operational capabilities in such scenarios.

Key benefits includes the,

  • Enhanced the precision strike capability
  • Improved stand off attack options
  • Reduced dependence on foreign weapon systems
  • Greater operational flexibility for fighter aircraft
  • Strengthening indigenous defence production

Reactions from Higher Leadership

Respectable Defense Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the DRDO, IAF, Defense Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs), Development-cum-Production Partners (DcPPs) and participating industries for the successful test.

The Secretary of the Department of Defense R&D and Chairman of DRDO has also praised the scientists, engineers, military personnel and the industry partners involved in the program.
