In a monumental stride towards promoting technological advancement and innovation, the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, in collaboration with EduRade, has inaugurated India’s largest Remote Pilot Training Organisation (RPTO). Spanning across 18 acres, this initiative boasts the capability to simultaneously fly 9 medium-class drones, positioning itself as a frontrunner in drone technology training.
The launch of IIT Guwahati’s RPTO symbolizes the institute’s unwavering commitment to revolutionizing drone training in India. With a focus on equipping individuals with essential expertise, the RPTO will kickstart with a DGCA-Certified Medium Class Drone Pilot Training Course. This initiative aligns seamlessly with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to establish India as a global drone hub by 2030, as highlighted in the recently launched ‘Namo Drone Didi’ initiative.
Catering to the aspirations of youth in North East and other regions of India, the RPTO will offer comprehensive training programs. Moreover, it will extend its reach to women from self-help groups engaged in agriculture, under the Namo Drone Didi Yojna. Upon successful completion of the course, students will be awarded a Remote Pilot Certificate (RPC) by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), opening doors to lucrative career opportunities as Certified Drone Pilots.
In a pioneering move, IIT Guwahati is hosting a groundbreaking drone training initiative tailored for diverse defence personnel. This three-month training program, specifically designed for Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) and other officers, aims to modernize the operations of the armed forces. Participants will receive comprehensive training on various aspects of drone technologies, empowering them for post-retirement career options or entrepreneurial pursuits.
The IIT Guwahati-RPTO plans to diversify its offerings with a range of drone-based courses catering to various skill levels and interests. This approach ensures comprehensive education and upskilling opportunities for individuals, contributing to the overall growth and innovation in the dynamic field of drone technology.
Professor Parameswar K. Iyer, Dean PRBR at IIT Guwahati, expressed the institute’s dedication to cultivating innovation and excellence in drone technology services and education. With a focus on nurturing a generation equipped with essential skills and knowledge, IIT Guwahati aims to propel progress and innovation in the dynamic field of drone technology, fostering leadership and pioneering spirit across India.
