Location of Borail Wildlife Sanctuary

Borail Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in the Cachar district of Assam, India. It includes two major forest reserves:

  • North Cachar Reserve Forest
  • Barel Reserve Forest

These forests are covered with tropical moist evergreen and semi-evergreen trees, creating a perfect environment for wildlife to thrive.

Wildlife in Borail Wildlife Sanctuary

The sanctuary is home to a wide variety of animals, birds and reptiles.

  • Mammals: Some of the important animals found here include the Himalayan black bear, Hoolock gibbon, Clouded Leopard, Langur, Macaques, Jungle cat, Serow and Barking deer.
  • Birds: Many rare and colorful birds live in the sanctuary, such as the While-backed vulture, Slender-billed vulture, Partridge, Pheasant and Hornbill.
  • Reptiles: The forest is also home to reptiles like the Rock python and King cobra.

These animals live in peace in the thick forests of the sanctuary, making it a great place for wildlife lovers.

Borail Wildlife Sanctuary is protected by the government to keep animals and nature safe. It is a wildlife sanctuary, which means:

  • No hunting, poaching or harming of animals is allowed.
  • The forests and surroundings are protected so that animals can live safely.
  • It helps in saving endangered species and maintaining the balance of nature.
