Chimmini Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the peaceful and green forest areas in India. It is famous for its beautiful landscapes, calm surroundings and rich wildlife. The sanctuary is home to many animals, birds and plants. It also has a dam and a lovely lake inside. Many nature lovers visit this place to enjoy trekking, birdwatching and the beauty of untouched nature.
Chimmini Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in Chalakudy taluk of Thrissur district in Kerala. It lies along the Western Ghats, a mountain range that is home to many rare animals and plants. The sanctuary covers an area of about 85.067 square kilometers.
The sanctuary was established in the year 1984. It is located on the western slopes of the Nelliyampathi Hills. The highest point in the sanctuary is called Punda Peak, which is 116 meters high.
Chimmini Sanctuary is connected to other protected areas. It is near the Peechi-Vazhani Wildlife Sanctuary and together, they form a large forest area of 210 square kilometers. It is also close to the Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary, which helps animals move freely between forests.
Two rivers, Kurumali and Mupliam, flow through this sanctuary. Inside the sanctuary, there is also a dam called the Chimmony Dam, built across the Chimmini River. This dam is a popular spot for visitors.
The main office of the sanctuary is in Echippora, which is about 40 kilometers from Thrissur city. Visitors can reach the sanctuary easily from Thrissur. For staying overnight, visitors can book rooms in the Inspection Bungalow near Chimmony Dam.
For those who love adventure, the sanctuary offers trekking paths. Walking through the forest paths, visitors can enjoy the greenery, birds and maybe even see wild animals.
