In Which State is Mouling National Park Located?

India has many beautiful national parks that help protect forests, animals and nature. These parks are home to rare wildlife, peaceful rivers and green mountains. Some are easy to visit, while others are hidden deep in the hills. One such national park in the northeastern part of the country is known for its quiet beauty and rich wildlife. Let’s learn about this special place.

Location of Mouling National Park

Mouling National Park is located in Arunachal Pradesh, a state in the northeastern part of India. It is mainly spread across the Upper Siang district, with parts in West Siang and East Siang districts too. It is the second national park created in the state after Namdapha National Park.

Why is it Called Mouling?

The park is named after Mouling Peak, the highest point in the area. The word ”Mouling” comes from the local Adi language, where it may mean:

  • Red Blood” or ”Red Poison’‘ – possibly because of red-colored tree sap or the presence of snakes.
  • Or ”Red Soil” – from ”mo” (soil) and ”yaling” (red)

This shows how nature and culture are closely linked in this region

Geography and Climate

  • The park covers an area of 483 square kilometers
  • The land is rough and hilly, with heights ranging from 750 to over 3,000 meters.
  • Rivers like the Siyom, Siring and Subong flow through or around the park.
  • Rainfall is very high and the climate is very humid.
  • In winter, snowfall is common in the higher parts.

Because it’s so remote, the park has no roads leading directly inside. The nearest towns are Along and Pasighat, and the nearest airfield is in Along.

Animals and Nature

Mouling National Park is rich in wildlife and plants. It’s called the ”cradle of biodiversity” in Arunachal Pradesh. Since it covers both tropical forests (in low areas) and temperate forests (in high areas), many different species live here, such as:

  • Red panda
  • Bengal tiger
  • Indian leopard
  • Barking deer
  • Serow
  • Takin
  • Goral

Many parts of the park are still touched by people, which helps keep the environment clean and safe for animals.
