The Duleep Trophy final between India-A and India-C concluded in dramatic fashion, with India-A emerging victorious by a margin of 132 runs. The match, which seemed destined for a draw that would have crowned India-C as champions, took a sudden turn in the closing stages, showcasing the unpredictable nature of cricket’s longer format.

India-A’s Declaration

India-A began the final day at 270 for six in their second innings. They batted for just two more overs, declaring at 286 for eight, setting India-C a challenging target of 350 runs.

India-C’s Chase

India-C’s run chase started with an unexpected move:

  • Vyshak Vijaykumar, typically a seamer, was sent in to open alongside captain Ruturaj Gaikwad.
  • The pair put on 36 for the first wicket before Vijaykumar was run out by a direct hit from substitute fielder Shaik Rasheed.
  • Gaikwad (44 runs off 93 balls) and Sai Sudharsan then forged a 77-run partnership for the second wicket.

Spinners Apply Pressure

As the innings progressed, India-A’s spinners came into play:

  • Tanush Kotian and Shams Mulani exerted considerable pressure on the India-C batsmen.
  • Their tight bowling kept India-A in the game, even as Sai Sudharsan continued to resist.

  • Aaqib Khan: The seamer impressed with his bowling, claiming the crucial wicket of Ruturaj Gaikwad.
  • B. Indrajith: Despite being injured, Indrajith showed great courage by coming out to bat at No. 10 in an attempt to save the match.
