India Approves Acquisition of Defence Equipment Worth Rs 84,560 Cr

The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh, has approved various capital acquisition proposals amounting to Rs 84,560 crore on February 16, 2024. These approvals emphasize the procurement of equipment from Indian vendors to promote self-reliance in defence manufacturing.

India Boosts Defence Capabilities with Rs 84,560 Crore Acquisition Approval

1. Procurement of Advanced Anti-Tank Mines:

  • Approval under Buy {Indian-Indigenously Designed Developed and Manufactured (IDDM)} category.
  • Features seismic sensor and remote deactivation for enhanced safety.

2. Canister Launched Anti-Armour Loiter Munition System:

  • AoN granted under Buy (Indian-IDDM) category.
  • Enhances operational efficiency in Tactical Battle Areas, targeting Beyond Visual Line of Sight.

3. Air Defence Tactical Control Radar:

  • AoN granted under Buy (Indian-IDDM) category.
  • Strengthens air defence systems for detecting slow, small, and low-flying targets.

4. Medium Range Maritime Reconnaissance & Multi-Mission Maritime Aircraft:

  • Procurement approved through Buy and Make category.
  • Aimed at bolstering surveillance and interdiction capabilities of Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard.

5. Active Towed Array Sonar & Heavy Weight Torpedoes:

  • AoN granted for procurement under Buy (Indian) category.
  • Enhances detection and attacking capabilities of submarines.

6. Flight Refueller Aircraft:

  • Procurement approved to enhance operational capabilities and reach of Indian Air Force.

7. Software Defined Radios:

  • AoN granted under Buy (Indian-IDDM) category for Indian Coast Guard.
  • Provides high-speed communication with secure networking capability for seamless information exchange.

Promoting Start-Ups & MSMEs in Defence Procurement:

  • Amendments in Defence Acquisition Procedure (DAP) 2020 approved.
  • Focus on benchmarking, cost computation, payment schedule, and procurement quantity.
  • Aims to create a supportive environment for start-ups and MSMEs under iDEX and TDF schemes, fostering innovation and self-reliance.
