India Clears Mega Deal to Buy 26 Rafale Marine Fighter Jets from France for Navy

India has taken a significant step in bolstering its naval aviation strength by approving a ₹63,000 crore (over $7 billion) inter-governmental deal with France for the procurement of 26 Rafale Marine fighter jets for the Indian Navy. Scorpene Submarine Procurement

  • Ministry of Defence also approved procurement of 3 additional Scorpene-class submarines from France.

  • Six such submarines have already been built under Project 75 at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL), in collaboration with France’s Naval Group.

Indian Air Force Linkage

  • IAF already operates 36 Rafale fighter jets (Ambala and Hashimara bases).
