India to Host 28th Asian TT Team Championships in October 2025

India is set to host the 28th ITTF-ATTU Asian Table Tennis Team Championships from October 11 to 15, 2025, in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. This prestigious continental event will feature top-tier men’s and women’s team competitions and also serve as a qualifying tournament for the 2026 ITTF World Team Championships. The top 13 teams in each category will secure spots at the global event.

This marks a major milestone for Indian table tennis and further establishes Bhubaneswar’s reputation as India’s emerging sports capital.

Significance of the Event

The Asian Table Tennis Team Championships, governed by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) and the Asian Table Tennis Union (ATTU), is a key continental tournament. Hosting it gives India,

  • Global visibility in the world of table tennis
  • Qualification opportunities for Indian teams
  • An occasion to showcase sports infrastructure and organizational capabilities

This is the first time Odisha will host an Asian-level table tennis championship, although it successfully hosted the 2019 Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships earlier.

Venue and Infrastructure

The matches will be played in Bhubaneswar, a city that has hosted major events like the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup, the Khelo India University Games, and the SAFF Championship. The Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) has assured that the event will follow international standards, including,

  • ITTF-approved flooring
  • Advanced lighting and equipment
  • Fully air-conditioned playing arenas

These facilities reflect Odisha’s commitment to becoming a hub for multi-sport excellence in India.

Who’s Competing?

The championship is expected to attract the top table tennis nations in Asia, including,

  • China (world leader in table tennis)
  • Japan, South Korea, and Singapore
  • Emerging teams from South Asia, the Middle East, and Central Asia

India’s men’s and women’s teams, bolstered by strong performances in recent international events, will be eager to leverage home advantage and secure World Championship qualification.

Road to the 2026 World Team Championships

A vital feature of this event is its role as a qualifier for the 2026 ITTF World Team Championships. The top 13 teams in both the men’s and women’s categories will earn direct qualification, adding competitive intensity to every match.

This opportunity could be crucial for Indian teams aiming to maintain or improve their global rankings and visibility.
