The final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 witnessed a spectacular batting performance from India national cricket team, who posted a massive 255/5 in 20 overs against the New Zealand national cricket team at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

After New Zealand won the toss and chose to bowl, Indian batters dominated the innings with aggressive stroke play, setting one of the highest totals ever in a T20 World Cup final.

India’s Explosive Batting Performance

India got off to a flying start thanks to Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson, who built a powerful opening partnership.

  • Sanju Samson played a brilliant knock of 89 runs off 46 balls, smashing 5 fours and 8 sixes.
  • Abhishek Sharma provided early momentum with 52 runs off just 21 balls, striking at an incredible 247.62.

The duo powered India to 92 runs in the powerplay, putting immense pressure on the New Zealand bowlers.

Middle Order Keeps the Momentum

Following the strong start, Ishan Kishan continued the aggressive approach, scoring 54 runs from 25 balls, including 4 fours and 4 sixes.

However, New Zealand briefly fought back when James Neesham picked up crucial wickets, dismissing Samson, Kishan, and Suryakumar Yadav.

Late Assault by Shivam Dube

India finished the innings strongly with a late cameo from Shivam Dube, who smashed 26 runs off just 8 balls at an incredible strike rate of 325.

Alongside Tilak Varma, Dube helped India cross the 250-run mark, setting a daunting target of 256 runs for New Zealand.
