India Wins Shooting Gold at Asian Games 2026

The Indian shooters secured their first shooting gold medal in the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026 when Suruchi Inder Singh and Kamaljeet emerged victorious in the 10m air pistol mixed team event on September 25. The Indian shooters shot an Asian record of 484.6 points in the final to emerge on top of South Korea and Iran. This was the second gold medal that India won in the Asian Games. India’s shooters suffered some defeats in the individual games, which made their success in the mixed team game very significant.

Winners of the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team Event

India’s shooters clinched the gold with a final score of total 484.6 points, 6.6 points ahead of South Korea.

Gold for India came from Hong Suhyeon and Choo Gaeun who earned 478.0 points for South Korea. For bronze, Haniyeh Rostamiyan and Vahid Golkhandan scored 415.8 points.

Indian Duo Create New Asian Record

The total score of Suruchi and Kamaljeet at the end of the match was 484.6, creating a new Asian record. Sources have claimed that the old Asian record held at 481.3 by Uzbekistan, which came in 2026.

Suruchi and Kamaljeet were already leading after the qualification match with a score of 587, along with 29 inner 10’s before they entered the final match against four other teams. During the qualification match, they had posted scores of 196, 195 and 196 in all three series.

The Indian couple maintained their lead right through most of the final, scoring 202.4 after 10 shots, and further increasing their lead before resisting South Korea’s late surge.

Mixed Pair Gold After Individual Setbacks

This mixed pair gold has come after both Indian shooters failed to make the cut for the individual final.

While Kamaljeet managed to secure a ninth place in individual qualification, Suruchi could only finish 26th. India could not win any medal in men’s and women’s team events in 10m air pistol match.

But the duo answered back in style, first leading the qualification and then the final.

Medal Count for India at the Asian Games 2026

The gold medal won in shooting increased India’s medal tally to 19 medals: 2 gold, 8 silver, and 9 bronze, according to reports released after the Games.

The performance also ensured that shooting became one of India’s gold medal-winning disciplines at the ongoing games.

The 20th Asian Games 2026, Aichi-Nagoya 2026, are being organized in Japan from September 19 to October 4, 2026. The Olympic Council of Asia recognizes Aichi-Nagoya as the host nation and India as one of the participating nations.
