Akshay Bhatia secured his maiden major tournament qualification by emerging victorious in the Valero Texas Open, defeating Denny McCarthy in a thrilling playoff. McCarthy, who had previously earned a Masters spot, showcased remarkable resilience, birdying eight of the last nine holes. Despite starting the day with a comfortable lead, Bhatia faced a formidable challenge from McCarthy, culminating in both players finishing at 20 under after 72 holes. Ultimately, Bhatia clinched the title with a decisive birdie on the first extra hole.
