The Indian Agriculture Minister, Narendra Singh Tomar, has launched ‘DigiClaim’, a new platform on the national crop insurance portal designed to speed up the payment of insurance claims to farmers who have taken out crop insurance policies. To demonstrate the platform’s efficiency, the Minister transferred a sum of Rs. 1,260.35 crore in insurance claims to insured farmers across multiple states in India, including Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, and Haryana, with a single click.
The newly launched DigiClaim platform will enable farmers to receive their insurance claims directly in their bank accounts, in a transparent and accountable manner. The technology behind this platform has been developed through the integration of the National Crop Insurance Portal (NCIP) and the Public Finance Management System (PFMS). As a result, the platform is expected to reduce the claim reversal ratio. Moreover, farmers will be able to track the progress of their claims in real-time using their mobile phones and access the benefits of the scheme more easily.
