The 2nd edition of the Indian Military Heritage Festival (IMHF) is set to begin on November 8, 2024, in New Delhi. The two-day event, backed by the Ministry of Defence and several esteemed institutions, aims to bring together global and Indian think tanks, academicians, corporations, and military experts to discuss topics related to India’s national security, foreign policy, and military heritage.
This year’s festival will be inaugurated by Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan, along with the three Service Chiefs. It follows the success of the inaugural IMHF held in October 2023, which highlighted India’s rich military culture through various exhibits and performances.
Inaugural Event: The festival will kick off with the launch of Project ‘Shaurya Gatha’, a collaborative initiative by the Department of Military Affairs and the United Services Institution of India, focused on preserving and promoting India’s military heritage through education and tourism.
Notable Publications: Several books on military history will be released, including Because of This: A History of the Indo-Pak Air War December 1971 by Air Mshl Vikram Singh (Retd), Valour and Honour, a joint publication of the Indian Army and USI, and Silent Weapons, Deadly Secrets: Unveiling the Bioweapons Arms Race by Dr. Mrinmayee Bhushan, edited by Lt Gen Vinod Khandare (Retd).
DRDO’s Contribution: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) will present a photo exhibition to showcase its journey and achievements in supporting the vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ through defense innovations.
Youth Engagement: The festival aims to inspire young minds, with participation from NCC cadets, and students from schools and colleges in Delhi NCR. Informative stalls will also provide insights into the diverse roles and opportunities within the Indian Armed Forces.
The festival is supported by key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Defence, Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, DRDO, Ministry of Culture, and other prominent institutions like the British High Commission. It builds on the success of last year’s inaugural event, which featured military band performances and various exhibits showcasing the Indian armed forces’ initiatives and contributions to national security.
