IndiaSkills 2024: Unveiling India’s Premier Skill Competition

The grand commencement of IndiaSkills 2024 took place at Yashobhoomi, Dwarka, New Delhi on 15 May 2024. Over the span of four days, this esteemed competition will assess the proficiency of students across 61 diverse categories, providing a platform for showcasing talent at both national and international levels.

Organized by NSDC

The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), under the Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), orchestrates this prestigious event. Supported by various entities including state governments, industry stakeholders, Sector Skill Councils (SSCs), and corporates, IndiaSkills Competition aims to bolster India’s skill ecosystem.

Student Selection Process

Drawing participants from over 30 states and Union Territories, the competition engages approximately 900 students alongside 400 industry experts. Initial screening through the Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH) Portal resulted in the selection of 900 candidates from an initial pool of 26,000, who will compete at the national level, while others pursue district and state-level contests.

Diverse Skill Evaluation

IndiaSkills 2024 embraces a wide spectrum of competencies, ranging from traditional crafts like jewellery making to contemporary technologies such as drone filmmaking and Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality. With 47 competitions hosted in New Delhi and 14 across Karnataka, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat, the event underscores the nation’s rich skill diversity.

Significance and Future Prospects

As a testament to India’s commitment to skill development, IndiaSkills Competition serves as a platform for nurturing talent and setting global benchmarks. Outstanding performers stand to receive advanced training from industry experts, paving their path to represent India at the prestigious WorldSkills competition in Lyon, France, scheduled for September 2024.
