Indore to Host BRICS Agriculture Meeting 2026, Focus on Food Security and Smart Farming

Indore set to host the five-day BRICS agriculture meeting under the India’s presidency. This event will brings together the representatives and agriculture ministers from major emerging economies to discuss the rising challenges and opportunities in the agriculture sector. This meeting also highlights the India’s growing role to shape the global agricultural cooperation and sustainable development strategies.

Indore to Host Major BRICS Agriculture Gathering

Respectable Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced that Indore will host a five-day BRICS agriculture meeting beginning on June 9, 2026.

The event will include the three-day Agriculture Working Group meeting from June 9 to June 11 and it is followed by a two-day BRICS Agriculture Ministers Meeting from June 12 to June 13.

This meeting is set to be organized under the India’s BRICS presidency and it is expected to play an important role to shaping the agricultural cooperation among member countries.

Key Issues to be Part of Discussion

This meeting will focus on some of the most pressing issues facing by global agriculture.

Delegates will discuss on the food security, farmer welfare, nutrition security, climate-resilient agriculture, smart farming technologies, agricultural research, digital agriculture, artificial intelligence, robotics, international agricultural trade and strengthen the supply chains.

These discussions are also expected to generate the policy recommendations that can help member nations improve the agricultural productivity while ensuring sustainability and resilience against climate change.

Why BRICS Matters in Global Agriculture

BRICS has emerged as one of the most influential groupings of the developing economies in the world.

According to the Shivraj Singh Chouhan, nearly half of the world’s population resides in to the BRICS countries.

The grouping also accounts for the around 42% of the world’s agricultural land and it contributes more than 42% of global agricultural production.

Out of approximately 580 million farmers worldwide nearly 70% of the small and marginal farmers live in BRICS nations.

India’s Leadership in BRICS Agriculture Cooperation

India’s presidency of the BRICS provides an opportunity to strengthen the cooperation among emerging economies to addressing agricultural challenges.

India has previously chaired the BRICS meetings in 2012, 2016 and 2021. Under the current presidency, India also aims to promote the collaborative approaches to sustainable agriculture, technological innovation, food security and farmer welfare.

The discussions in Indore are also expected to contribute with a common vision for improving the agricultural resilience and supporting smallholder farmers across member countries.

Focus on Technology and Smart Farming

One of the major themes of the meeting will be the use of technology in the field of agriculture.

Multiple discussions will explore how  the artificial intelligence, robotics, digital agriculture platforms, and precision farming techniques can help to improve productivity while reducing the costs and environmental impacts.

Member countries are also expected to share the best practices and innovative solutions which can help farmers adapt to changing climate conditions and increasing food demand.

Joint Declaration Expected After Meeting

The main outcome of the BRICS Agriculture Ministers Meeting is expected to be a joint declaration.

According to the Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the declaration will be issued after the consensus among the agriculture ministers of all participating countries.

This document is likely to outline shared priorities, future areas of cooperation and commitments related to the agricultural sustainability, food security, farmer welfare and innovation in farming practices.
