In the inaugural 2008 season, Shaun Marsh, playing for Punjab Kings (then known as Kings XI Punjab), won the Orange Cap by scoring 616 runs in 11 matches. This breakout performance helped catapult Marsh into the international cricket arena, where he went on to feature regularly for Australia.

Legendary Winners: Sachin Tendulkar and Chris Gayle

Over the years, the IPL Orange Cap has been won by several renowned cricketers. In 2010, legendary Indian batter Sachin Tendulkar, playing for Mumbai Indians, scored 618 runs in 15 games to claim the coveted prize. The West Indies’ Chris Gayle then became the first player to win consecutive Orange Caps in 2011 and 2012, scoring 608 runs in IPL 2011 and 733 runs in 15 matches in IPL 2012 for Royal Challengers Bangalore.

The Record-Holder: David Warner

However, it is Australian opener David Warner who has won the IPL Orange Cap the most number of times. The former Sunrisers Hyderabad captain won three Orange Caps between 2015 and 2019, showcasing his consistent and dominant batting performances in the tournament.

The Highest Scorer: Virat Kohli

The year that David Warner led SRH to the IPL title was marked by Virat Kohli’s incredible run-scoring. The then RCB captain amassed an extraordinary tally of 973 runs in 16 games, which remains the highest runs scored in a single IPL season.
