IREDA celebrates Cyber Jaagrukta Diwas

To create cybersecurity awareness among all employees, Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Ltd. (IREDA) observed the Cyber Jaagrukta Diwas. On this occasion, Shri Alok Kumar, Information Security Consultant, AKS IT Services, shared his insights with IREDA employees on the practice of cyber hygiene.

What Is The Purpose Of This Event

Cyber Jaagrukta Diwas is an initiative launched by the Ministry of Home Affairs that requires all government organizations to spread cybersecurity awareness. It is observed on first Wednesday of every month. The purpose is to create awareness and sensitize the Internet users on safeguarding against cyber frauds and cybercrimes.

What Is Cyber Jaagrukta Diwas

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has requested all offices/branches/sections, PSUs, etc., to observe Cyber Jagrookta (Awareness) Diwas on the first Wednesday of every month and prepare an Annual Action Plan in this regard. All the concerned organizations are requested to observe Cyber Jagrookta Diwas by generating cybersecurity awareness through seminars, workshops, quiz competitions, interactive sessions, case studies, creative sessions, and best practices.

Why Cyber Jaagrukta Diwas is Necessary

In this age of technology, cyber security is a new challenge, hence, to design and construct all our clients’ centralized procedures and assist them in implementing them in their organizations. The following are a few key processes that must be followed to comply with the regulations:
a. A major Indian oil PSU suffered a cyber attack disrupting its operations 01 in Assam and received a ransom demand of ₹57 crores
b. In 2021, a suspected Pakistani group launched phishing attacks on India’s Critical Infrastructure PSUs from the telecom, power and finance sectors
c. CERT-In reported a total of 11.5 lakh and 12.1 lakh cybersecurity incidents during 2020 and 2021 (up to October) respectively
d. Of these, 54,314 and 32,736 incidents involved various government organizations in 2020 and 2021 respectively.
