The 29th Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) concluded with a momentous highlight as the Israeli film ‘Children of Nobody‘ secured the prestigious Golden Royal Bengal Tiger Award for Best Film. Inspired by a true story, this compassionate Israeli drama sheds light on the often unnoticed and uncared-for individuals on the periphery of society.

The movie, written and directed by Erez-Tadmor from Tel-Aviv, unfolds the compelling journey of troubled boys compelled to unite to save a shelter for at-risk youth, providing them refuge from the streets

Special Jury Award for Innovation in Moving Images

  • The ceremony also honored Anjan Dutt with the Special Jury Award for International Competition: Innovation in Moving Images for his film ‘Chalchitra Ekhon.’
  • A tribute to the austere Mrinal Sen, the film was lauded as Anjan Dutt’s best work by veteran actress-filmmaker Aparna Sen.

Golden Royal Bengal Tiger Award for Bengali Panorama Section

  • For the first time, the Bengali Panorama section turned competitive at KIFF, with director duo Rajdeep Paul and Sarmistha Maiti securing the Golden Royal Bengal Tiger Award for ‘Mon Potongo.’
  • The film not only earned them a trophy but also a cash prize of Rs 7.5 lakh. Their recent success with ‘Kalkokkho’ at the National Awards further cements their position in the Bengali film industry.

NETPAC Award for ‘Broken Dreams: Stories from the Myanmar Coup’

  • In the Asian Select section, the NETPAC Award for Best Film went to ‘Broken Dreams: Stories from the Myanmar Coup.’
  • Produced by Ninefold Mosaic, this feature-length omnibus film consists of nine short films by eight exiled Myanmar filmmakers.
  • The poignant portrayal of ordinary citizens caught in extraordinary events resonates with heart-breaking, stunning, and inspirational results, earning it the coveted award.
