Justice Aniruddha Bose Appointed Director of National Judicial Academy

Supreme Court Justice Aniruddha Bose has been named the new director of the National Judicial Academy (NJA) in Bhopal, as announced by Supreme Court Chief Justice DY Chandrachud during a ceremonial bench held on April 10. The NJA, established in 1993, operates under the guidance of the Supreme Court and aims to enhance the skills of judges and facilitate court administration.

Background and Career Progression

  • Born on April 11, 1959, in Kolkata, Aniruddha Bose pursued law at Surendranath Law College after completing higher secondary education.
  • Started practicing constitutional, civil, and intellectual property law at Calcutta High Court in 1985.
  • Appointed as a permanent judge of Calcutta High Court in January 2004 and later elevated as Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court in August 2018.
  • Elevated to the Supreme Court on May 24, 2019, and retired from the apex court on April 10, 2024.
