Karnataka Cabinet Expansion 2026: 19 Ministers Inducted into CM D K Shivakumar's Cabinet
Under the Chief Minister D K Shivakumar led government, on 3rd of August 2026 inducted 19 legislators ministers into the cabinet. A ceremony for swearing-in was held at Lok Bhavan, Bengaluru in which Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot granted the oath of office to the new ministers. The expansion will surely boost the Congress government that is only two months old and grabs most of the available ministerial posts while ensuring the balancing of regional and caste representation within the party.
On 3rd June 2026, D K Shivakumar sworn in as the new Chief Minister, along side with him total 13 ministers sworn in as the ministers in state Cabinet.
With the appointment of 19 more ministers, the strength of cabinet in Karnataka government has increased to 33 leaving one ministerial post vacant which the Constitution permits a total of 34 ministers including Chief Minister.
This cabinet expansion has come after receipt of approval from congress High Command which has initially approved 20 names for appointment.
The cabinet reshuffle produced several key outcomes.

Article 164(1A) of the Constitution stipulates that the maximum number of ministers, including the Chief Minister in a state, is set at 15 percent of the total number of members in the Legislative Assembly, subject to the stipulation that there will be a minimum of 12 ministers in that state.
